MORE INFORMATION

Do you want to become an expert in one of the most sought-after fields in modern applied economics?

The Master's in Competition, Regulation and Market Economics (CReMa) was created to meet the growing demand for specialists capable of analyzing markets, competition policies, and regulatory institutions with academic rigor and advanced quantitative tools. As the successor to UC3M's long-established MIEM program, it builds on more than thirty years of experience and a strong network of professionals working in regulatory agencies, economic consultancies and regulated industries.

The program is designed for graduates in economics or related disciplines who wish to deepen their analytical and empirical skills. Its academic orientation allows students to develop a solid command of modern theoretical frameworks, econometric methods, and applied tools used to understand how markets function and how regulators intervene.

CReMa is a one-year, full-time program taught entirely in English and delivered on campus. Its intensive structure provides advanced training aligned with European standards and fosters an international learning environment. Building on a first set of core courses in microeconomics, econometrics and market analysis, the program then develops specialized competencies through advanced modules in competition policy, regulatory economics and applied case studies.

Throughout the year, students benefit from the excellence of UC3M's Department of Economics—ranked among the top 100 worldwide in RePEc—and from the direct involvement of professionals from institutions such as the CNMC, the Bank of Spain, AIReF, Compass Lexecon, NERA, and PwC. These collaborations enrich the academic curriculum with workshops, seminars and case-based sessions led by practitioners with real-world experience.

The programme is designed for graduates in Economics or related fields who wish to deepen their analytical and quantitative skills in the study of markets, competition policy and regulatory institutions. It is also suitable for students from other disciplines—such as engineering, business, mathematics or data science—who have some familiarity with quantitative analysis and are willing to strengthen their background in microeconomics, econometrics and applied modelling.

The academic direction of the master can provide guidance on the prerequisite knowledge and on how prospective students may acquire it before the start of the programme.

You will study in a truly multicultural environment, with about half of your classmates coming from countries around the world. Your instructors represent a balanced mix of academics with PhDs from top international universities and strong research reputations, consultants from leading economic consultancy firms, and professionals working in major regulated industries. This combination ensures that you receive both rigorous academic foundations and direct exposure to real-world applications.

After acquiring the core tools of economic analysis, you will deepen your knowledge in your chosen specialization, working alongside experts from major multinational companies and regulatory institutions. You will develop the skills needed to succeed in international professional environments, and you will also have the opportunity to extend your studies abroad to specialize in areas such as marketing, business administration, finance, information systems, or to pursue further training in economics.

CReMa graduates are trained to work at a high technical level in competition economics, regulation, and advanced quantitative analysis. They are natural candidates for:

  • Economic consulting firms specialized in competition and regulatory matters
  • Competition authorities and regulatory agencies
  • Strategy and economic analysis departments in large corporations
  • PhD programs in economics at leading universities

The program maintains close links with the professional sector, and many students undertake internships that often become their first full-time positions. Its strong foundation in advanced microeconomics and applied econometrics ensures that graduates meet the technical standards required by top employers in the field.
