Do you want to be an expert in a profession experiencing high demand in recent years?
The Master’s in Industrial Economics and Markets came about to respond to the ever-increasing demand for experts in industrial economy brought about by the change of national and international structures due to market globalization and change in competitiveness policies in the industrial sector. The Master’s goal is to train experts through three key areas: Industrial organization, business economics and economic quantitative analysis.
The Master’s, aimed at economists, business & administration profiles and engineers, is a two-year program carried out in English. After the first year, focused on the basics of economics, courses in industrial organization are taught and students can choose one of the three specialization areas: energy economics, telecommunications economics or transport economics. The core courses of MEI provided with a sound knowledge in Industrial Organization, Regulation theory and Quantitative Analysis, and also Finance. The specialization on the telecoms market and energy sectors were additional parts of MEI in the second year with clear application to the job market. Finally, the dissertation helped me to improve my analysis and drafting skills. I definitely learned a lot from the faculty of Carlos 3 University and improved my skills as an Economist specialized in Competition Policy and Econometrics.

The Master in Industrial Economics and Markets provides extensive training in applied microeconomics and econometrics. In contrast to most of the Masters in Economics, this degree is not only rigorous in the theoretical side but also very oriented to the job market, having a second year fully dedicated to real life cases. UC3M top faculty is complemented with the most recognized professionals in Competition Policy, Regulatory Economics and regulated sectors. Skills acquired in this master are highly valued in companies working in regulated environments such as transport, energy or telecommunications, but also in the economics consultancy sector. All these makes the MIEM a unique Master in both Spain and Europe.

I was part of the 2013/2015 promotion in Industrial Economics and Markets. I first got to know about this master one year before the matriculation time, and ever since I read the programme, I realized it would be the one I would study. I had decided I wanted to diversify my knowledge and learn about Economics - being an engineer, I was at first a little afraid in case I would have problems relative to my background, but I did not have any problem whatsoever. It seemed to me that it was a nice idea to spend the first year learning about theoretical courses such as Statistics, Microeconomics or Finances, and then apply the acquired knowledge in the Energy, Transport & Telecommunications markets. The professors come from some of the most conspicuous companies in their respective fields, and therefore the networking was guaranteed. To top it all off, I was also chosen to study a 5-month extension of the Master in the prestigious Humboldt Universität zu Berlin.
